Zoning Enforcement
Print E-mail
The Zoning Officer conducts inspections of property to ensure compliance with town regulations. Typical zoning enforcement involves the following:

  • Construction without proper permits or in violation of approved permits;
  • Erecting or installing signs without permits;
  • Erecting or installing fences without permits;
  • Operating a business without a license or in violation of approved operating conditions or zoning regulations.

In addition, the Town enforces Regulations for the following:

High Grass and Weeds

Property owners are responsible for maintaining their property. The Zoning Officer responds to complaints regarding high grass and weeds in the community. Grass and weeds (including grass, weeds, brush, poison ivy, poison oak, honeysuckle or any other vegetable growth other than trees, ornamental shrubbery, flowers and garden vegetables) are in violation of the Town Code if they are 15 inches or higher and if located within 100 feet of any building.

Inoperative Vehicles

The Zoning Officer responds to complaints and enforces the Town Code related to inoperative vehicles in the town. Vehicles that do not display current license decals or state inspection stickers or which are otherwise obviously inoperative (e.g. flat tires, engine or other parts removed, etc.) are in violation of Town Code.

Trash and Debris

Property owners are responsible for maintaining their property in a clean, sanitary, and attractive manner. The Zoning Officer responds to complaints regarding excess trash and debris in the community. Trash and debris that is unsightly, unsanitary, or hazardous are in violation of the Town Code. Debris may include cuttings of weeds, trees or bushes, trash, junk, discarded motor vehicles or any other material which may provide a hiding place for snakes or rats, or anything or any conditions which may be a fire menace, breeding place for mosquitoes or which gives off obnoxious or offensive odors.
