| The Town owns and operates a water treatment facility to ensure a plentiful supply of potable water to its residents and County customers for human consumption and fire suppression. The plant currently is rated to supply 3.0 million gallons of water per day (mgd), but is undergoing improvements that will allow the plant to produce up to 6.0 mgd. The source for the Town's water is from surface waters, i.e. rivers and creeks. The majority of our water is obtained from the South Fork of the Shenandoah River with additional water coming from Happy Creek and Sloan Creek. Our tap water is safe and is higher quality than that required for all state and federal requirements for drinking water. Each employee at the Plant is committed to producing the highest quality water. The environmental quality of the water produced is in accordance with the rigorous standards established by the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the United States Environmental Protection Agency to assure safety to the consumer and the environment. You can reach the local Health Department at 540-722-3480, and Virginia Department of Health at 540-463-7136. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) can be reached at 540-828-2595. If you would like information about conserving water please visit the Environmental Protection Agency's website at http://www.epa.gov/p2/pubs/water.htm or http://www.epa.gov/seahome/watcon.html. The Town provides an annual Water Quality Report that summarizes the treatment quality. If you did not receive this report in the mail or have any questions regarding your water, please contact the Plant at (540) 636-7474. |
