The Department is responsible for both "in-house" design projects and coordination of projects developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation and Town engineering consultant firms. Projects initiate in the Preliminary Design Phase where general project limits, requirements, impacts, and costs are identified. The project then proceeds to the Final Design Phase where details associated with the project are resolved, and final construction plans are produced for advertisement. Public meetings, right-of-way acquisition, or other necessary events occur throughout the development of the project.

SIGNALIZATION IMPROVEMENTS -ROYAL AVE @ MAIN STREET & JACKSON STREET

The Town is currently working with VDOT to improve the signalization of  these intersections to include video detection as part of a Revenue Sharing Project.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT UPGRADE

The Town has hired Stearns & Wheler Engineers to design upgrades to the Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance the treatment methodology to conform with the nutrient removal requirements associated with the Chesapeake Bay Act.  In addition, the plant's treatment capacity will also be augmented.
