as you travel this holiday season

The Front Royal Police Department wants to remind people to buckle up as they travel every day of the year, and especially this weekend. With the upcoming holiday weekend, millions of Americans will be on the roadway eager to spend time with friends and family.

Historically, Thanksgiving is the busiest travel time of the year, which also brings an increased likelihood of crashes. During Thanksgiving weekend 2013, 300 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide. Tragically, 58% of those killed were not wearing a seat belt. "More than half of the drivers being killed aren't wearing a seat belt" said Police Chief Norman Shiflett. "Buckling your seat belt is one of the simplest things that you'll ever do that could save your life" said Chief Shiflett. Drivers in the Front Royal area may may see extra officers on the roadway targeting drivers who are not buckled up.

If you have any questions about the upcoming holiday traffic enforcement, please contact MPO Travis Cave at (540)635-2111.
